Scott Evans and Richard Kind at American Actor
Richard Kind, the well-known comedic actor (for his roles on Spin City, Curb Your Enthusiasm and many voiceovers including Molt in Disney/Pixar’s A Bugs Life, Van in Disney/Pixar’s Cars, the narrator for Disney’s Go Baby, and Tom (Jasper) the cat's voice in Tom and Jerry: The Movie), ran a Master Class for the Select Six Semi-Finalists for American Actor on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
A graduate of Second City and Northwestern University in Chicago, Mr. Kind worked with the Select 6 Semi-Finalists and several of the Fan Favorites (those who are leading in the polls to be brought back for cameo appearances on the Finals). He gave his insights to doing improvizations and talked about the joys and pitfalls of choosing acting as a career.
His afternoon appearance followed the judging of the Select 6 for their Film work (created with film students at LaSalle University, The University of the Arts, and Drexel University in Philadelphia). The judges, Scott Evans, Jeffrey Berry, and Tony Braithwaite viewed preliminary rounds for each actor and then the short films featured teams of two of the semi-finalists. Their scores will help narrow the field to the Top 3 who will carry most of the show on December 11, 2007 before a Live-in-the-Theater and Live-over-the-Internet production where the American Actor will be selected.
Background on this round's judges include:
1. Scott Evans - Associate of Mike Lemon Casting, Creator of "Cultivating Intuition" for actors.
2. Jeffrey Berry - President and Founder of SBK Productions, produced "The Anthem" movie at the Franklin Institute. Produced hundreds of commercials for clients including Campbell's Soup, Pepsi, Coke, Barbie, and McDonald's.
3. Tony Braithwaite - The well-known Philadelphia actor who just completed an extended run at Ambler's Act II Playhouse: Say Goodnight, Gracie" where he played the legendary George Burns. He is directing "The Fantasticks" at the Kimmel Center, performing at 1812 Productions, This Is The Week That Is, and continues his directing for his alma mater, St. Joe's prep.
Actor Jonathan hurt his ankle on his way to the full-day event when stepping off a train in Philadelphia. He later had to fly to Atlanta, GA for the Thanksgiving holiday, where he could nurse it back to health.
