Promoting Your Theater Production
Friends,
I want to share with you my list of suggestions for advertising or promoting your latest play.
Here is the way I do it at The Player's Club of Swarthmore when it becomes my contributing part of the current play. I hope you find this helpful:
1. Word of Mouth (you can't get cheaper than that)
2. Flyers (maybe someone will underwrite the costs)
3. Posters (think libraries, stores, your lobby, etc.)
4. Press releases, reviews and articles - and send them electronically to save the paper
retyping time!
5. Community Calendars—don't forget, they appear not only in newspapers but also on local
radio and TV stations
6. Written testimonials following the first show
7. Chamber of Commerce bulletins, newsletters and magazines
8. Church bulletins
9. Complimentary theater tickets (they don't really cost your theater anything if you have any
empty seats)
10. Newspaper ads
And don't forget the Internet.
http://www.StageMagazineOnline.com provides an ongoing up-to-the minute listing of Professional, University, Community, Summer, Theater for Youth, and High School productions.
Why spend dollars where you have to SHOUT to be noticed (like a newspaper covering 27 varied arts and nonprofit organizations in it's Arts and Leisure section) when all the people of this Theater Community are interested in what you have to say?
It will be great to share this new Theater Community Connected By The Internet with you!
Ruth
