Special Alert Blog for StageMagazineOnline.com - What's Happening In Theater The Week of January 21, 2008

Friends,

(Please remember that this is NOT the complete information. You need to log into your membership area on StageMagazineOnline.com to see everything!)

The second season continues with lots of openings!

1) Warning About Bogus Emails

Maybe you've seen them too - bogus emails that say, "Click Here to confirm you want to be on our mailing list." In fairness, you SHOULD click on such a link when you expect it from someone you know, but IF you click on it from someone you do NOT know, you just gave them legal permission to SPAM you. Be On The Lookout!

I've even seen some that "appear" to come from SPAM Alert, the watchdog agency.

Or one that said, "This address is wrong, so please send to THIS address." The trouble is, you don't know EITHER address and shouldn't email them ever.

I even had one sent TO me FROM me… it's SO easy to change the "from" address these days. So please, read your email summaries carefully before opening the whole email and certainly before you click on any links.

Last Thursday I watched while 2,737 bogus emails arrived into my inbox within 93 minutes. I was under attack! Though I don't believe in capital punishment, if I could get my hands on one of these super spammers, I could do some tremendous damage I'm sure.

2) Theaters: are you using the Articles and Releases section of StageMagazineOnline.com?

Google is spidering us a lot! We've seen articles indexed by Google within 10 minutes of our posting them. And when I get Google Alerts, I'm always amazed at how quickly our articles get into Google.

If you are NOT having us publish your Theater Press Releases and stories, you are missing the boat! Click Here To Ask Kate To Help You Use the Articles and Releases Section on StageMagazineOnline.com!

3) Are you using the Social Networks and Social Bookmarking Sites to get the word out about your theater? Andrew on our staff spends most of his working time cultivating these venues to help you sell your empty seats. Maribeth has been in touch with possible Reviewers through MySpace. And I'm taking a 10-week course from some of the sharpest internet marketing minds just to be sure I have all the important details about how we can help you the most. Chat with me if you need some help with marketing through Social Networks.
