Narberth Community Theatre Announces Auditions for Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST May 19th and 20th Doors open at 6:30 pm Auditions Begin at 7:00 pm.  Audition applications will NOT be accepted after 7:30 pm Except for the role of Chip (male, 8-12 years old), NO CHILDREN WILL BE SEEN OR CAST Auditioner must be at least 15 years old, have reliable evening transportation and be able to perform all scheduled shows.. For the audition: . Prepare a BROADWAY song, preferably from the show but not necessarily so. If the song is not from the show, you MUST have the sheet music to the song with you - recorded music is NOT acceptable, and no one will sing a cappella. . Dress comfortably as you will be expected to dance. . Do NOT come in costume. .Expect a LONG evening. We will move you in and out as fast as possible, but expect a large turnout. . Auditions are held at Narberth Community Theatre located in the Narberth United Methodist Church at the corner of Essex and Price Avenues, about three blocks from the center of Narberth, Pennsylvania.

CHARACTER SKETCHES - FEMALE

BELLE - 20-35, mezzo-soprano (low A to high F) - must have excellent voice, strong stage presence, graceful stage movement and good timing. The star of the show. Will be required to attend all rehearsals.

MRS. POTTS - 40-early 50's, mezzo-soprano (low F to high G) - the teapot, mother of Chip the teacup. Will be required to wear the teapot outfit, so physical agility and stamina a must. Excellent voice and strong stage presence a must.

BABETTE - 20-40 - soprano to high C - the feather duster - must have strong comic timing and a good French accent. Tall and slim a plus.  Vocals important but not critical.

MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE - 30's to 50's - mezzo-soprano (C to D) - the wardrobe - former opera star and every bit the ham. Bigger than life.  Vocals very important and must be tall enough to see over our costume's edge. Comedic ability a must.

SILLY GIRLS - 18 to late 20's - will cast at least three, possibly four. Local girls who are in love with Gaston.  Excellent character actors needed, high energy and good comic timing.  Interesting character voice a plus.

CHARACTER SKETCHES - MALE

THE BEAST/PRINCE - 25 to 40-ish - baritone (A to high F) - must be an excellent actor and singer, with athleticism and good body tone a large plus. Must be able to convey vulnerability while also engendering fear.

GASTON - 25 to 40 - baritone (A to high F) with strong low notes. Must be a good singer and in very good shape - call him buff. The villain of the
show. Must be completely self-absorbed (on stage only, please!) and able to convey it.

COGSWORTH - 30 to 50's - baritone (A to high E) - the clock - excellent comic timing needed, good voice and can be stouter than the others. Pompous and officious.

LUMIERE - 25 - late 40's - baritone (A to high F#) - the candelabra - excellent singer, must move very well, have a strong French accent and great comic timing. Should be tall and lean.

LAFOU- 20's to early 30's - baritone (B to high F#) - Gaston's bumbling sidekick.  Strong character voice, excellent comedic sense and superb agility. He gets knocked around a lot, so strong physical condition is a must, but must be significantly smaller than Gaston.

MAURICE - mid-40's to 60's - baritone (B to D) - Belle's father - a little nuts but very loving. Does some physical things, so needs to be limber. Good voice and strong comedic sense.

CHIP -8 to 12 - tenor (D- high B) - the teacup - strong acting and vocals needed.Must also fit into our teacup cart and cannot be afraid of tight spaces.

MONSIEUR D'ARQUE - 40's and up - tenor (D to high A) - sinister operator of the insane asylum.

CHORUS All will sing and must audition for the show.

BE OUR GUEST DANCERS AND SINGERS - bit parts for good singers and dancers in
this important number.
