A Blogger Invades Community Theaters - Busy December

I had a nice moment yesterday when a construction detour took me down a back road in Media, PA. It was an intimate little street with some colonial houses, and three of them had "gone to town" on Christmas decorations. This was at night, so everything was lit up. From living in Philadelphia and now downtown Media, along with the time passed since last December, it was just a pleasant surprise for me to see some great examples of 'Christmas in Suburbia'. Decorations on the front lawn along with lights lining the windows and the rooftop, on a chilly December 3rd evening with Holiday music playing in my car, all contributed to a real nice feeling.

On the topic of the Holidays, there are some Christmas shows opening this week that I'm looking forward to. The Ritz Theatre Company is performing Scrooge, the Musical, opening Thursday, Dec. 6th. As an FYI, when I was maybe ten or eleven I played Scrooge in a production through Boy Scouts. Honestly can't remember if I was any good, but I do remember getting to say 'bah humbug' a lot and wondering what the heck a humbug was.

The Barley Sheaf Players will be presenting A Christmas Carol opening Friday, Dec. 7th, and Dutch Country Players will be presenting Too Wrapped Up for Christmas, also opening Dec. 7th. I had never heard of Too Wrapped Up for Christmas until this week! It looks interesting. The Dutch Country Players set up a page with information on the plot and some pictures of the cast: Click Here (link to http://www.dutchcountryplayers.com/TooWrappedUpForChristmas/TooWrappedUpForChristmas.html)

And, an important reminder: If you're with a Community Theater that is putting on a Holiday production and you'd like to get reviewed, feel free to send a friendly note to Maribeth Waddington ( Maribeth@StageMagazineOnline.com). The Holiday Season tends to be short and sweet, and with all the parties, activities, shopping, and TV specials, it's easy for peoples' calendars to get filled up. Getting your Holiday show reviewed by us is fantastic publicity for your Theater & your show. Not to mention, Community Theater actors, actresses, and crew, who dedicate their time in this busy month to rehearse and perform, don't deserve any empty seats!

By the way, we're always on the lookout for new reviewers. Give your favorite theater the gift of a review this Holiday season.

Warmest,

Anthony DiFiore
