“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, presented by Monsignor Bonner, was filled with psychedelic cheerleaders, an Elvis impersonator, and much more. Taking on a story about making your dreams come true, Monsignor Bonner gave this Tony nominated musical a shot of personality and fun.

This story taken from the Bible begins by presenting Jacob (Brett Canfield) and his 12 sons, including his favorite son, Joseph (Timothy Barr). Joseph dreams that he will achieve greatness and it’s made clear to his brothers. That dream, as well as the fact that Jacob gives Joseph a beautiful and colorful coat, leads the brothers to sell Joseph into slavery. Through a course of events, Joseph ends up in jail where he becomes very popular because of the ability to interpret dreams. The Pharaoh (Joe Denny) hears of Joseph’s ability and makes Joseph the most powerful person in Egypt, besides himself. Eventually, Joseph’s brothers realize they were wrong and they go to find their brother. The family is reunited and “Joseph’s Dreams” really come true.

Monsignor Bonner’s production included a large amount of talent and energy that was captivating the entire time. The overall production was very entertaining and the cast and crew nicely tackled this fairly demanding script.

Marie Eife performed extremely well as the Narrator. With excellent stage presence on top of a great voice and acting skills, Eife was charming and told the story well. She created a versatile character that transitioned from being an outside observer to being involved with the story. Timothy Barr, as Joseph, created a believable character that was easy to relate to.

The dancing and singing of the ensemble and supporting actors was exceptional. The Brothers were extremely talented and engaging. Vocally, the entire ensemble was tight with their harmonies and included stand out vocalists such as Levi (Colin McCarry). In terms of dance, the ensemble moves were generally simple but the solo and small group work was outstanding. Some stand out dancers included Potiphar’s Wife (Michelle Fitzgerald), Amanda Jordan, and Jarae Lewis.

Tech had a great night with nearly seamless transitions and a practically invisible stage crew. Colorful lights also added to the effects of the production.

Even with a few focus and pitch problems here and there, Monsignor Bonner’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was entertaining and made it obvious that “Any Dream Will Do”.
